What we are learning this month:

French:       We finished an Autumn booklet. We are presently working on reading comprehension and Thanksgiving activities. We will write stories for Halloween along with vocabulary and a variety of activities.

Maths:   We will now begin addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. Problem solving will be ongoing.

Health: We will focus on nutrition, food groups and healthy eating habits.

Science:  We will wind up our spider unit with a couple of tests. The next Unit Will be Magnetism.

English: We watched the video The Rainbow Fish. We had a rich discussion about the moral of the story. A project will follow. We are also working on a booklet with interesting adjectives and completing sentences.

Art:  We are working on our pumpkin seed project. 

Religion:   The four parts of Mass.

What will we learn about in September?

 

French:     We will work on our French listening, speaking and writing skills. We will also review our French sounds ( ai, on, in, ou  etc.)

 

Math:   We will be working on number sense and reviewing strategies for addition and subtraction.

             Skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's will be ongoing and an important focus.

 

Social Studies:  We will learn about Canada and the physical geography of the three Canadian communities:  Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon and make a comparison with our own community.

 

Science:  We will begin our new Small Crawling and Flying Animals Unit. The children will learn about different types of spiders and their characteristics. They will watch videos and use library books to do some research.

 

Religion:  The children will learn about how we belong to God's family.

 

Art:  We will begin preparing a Fall Art Project.

 Dear Parents,

Apart from the Lenten celebration, there are no other significant dates in March.

What we are doing this month:

French:  Story writing with a beginning, middle and end and the use of interesting adjectives and expressions. Reading comprehension of fiction and non- fiction text. French grammar such as identifying  nouns, verbs and adjectives in a sentence. Easter activities.

Math:  We are currently working on rounding to the nearest ten, reading and placing three digit numbers in ascending and descending order and symbols for greater than and smaller than with three digit numbers. Practicing representing a three digit number in three different ways. Problem solving will be ongoing.

Science:  We have completed our Unit on Liquids and we have moved on to Boats and Buoyancy. The children wrote their words of the week based on this Unit. They will practice them for next week. Today the kids had fun constructing their boats with modelling clay. Unfortunately, all of them sank, so I showed them how to modify their boat in order to make it float. The second attempt was more successful.

English:  Story writing with a beginning, middle and end and the use of interesting adjectives and expressions. We have been working on information about bats and their habitat. Most of the kids have finished their project. Charlotte's Web/ Novel study is ongoing. We will also be writing some Spring Poems.

Art:  We are working on our Spring project. I will send you pictures of their Art Work soon.

Health:  We are doing activities about mindfulness. How to keep our body healthy and active.

What we are doing this month

French:   Reading Comprehension. Grammar such as proper nouns, common nouns and adjectives.  Story writing.

ELA:   Novel Study.  Charlotte's Web  Character Study and Multiple Choice of events in the book.

Math:  We have started addition with regrouping. Please ask your child to show you an example.  Problem solving will be ongoing.

Science: Hot and Cold Unit.  How animals and birds keep warm in winter. Insulation.

Health:  Making responsible choices to keep everyone safe at school.

Religion:  Advent Prayers and activities.

Art:  Inukshuk Project.  Christmas Crafts.

Information for this month:

French Language Arts:  The children will be working on Reading Comprehension. They are completing their story about La Sorciere using comprehensive vocabulary. For more practice in French you could visit:  http://www.duplaisiralire.com/jeux/index.htm  and

English Language Arts:  We finished watching The Rainbow Fish. We had an interesting discussion about how a bully who was lonely soon had a lot of friends. The children related this story with their own lives giving examples. We will start the Novel Study Charlotte's Web by E.B. White tomorrow. 

Maths: Addition and Subtraction with two digit numbers will be ongoing. We will also be starting our Patterning Unit and Odd and Even Numbers.  Please do continue to practice Skip Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's at home.

Social Studies:  We will continue studying the people, language and culture of the three communities of Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon.

Science:  We will be starting our new Hot and Cold Temperatures Unit tomorrow.

Religion:   The students will learn about The Apostle's Creed and the Beatitudes.

Art:  The Pumpkin Seed Project is finished. We will start working on the Inukshuks as a major landmark in the North.

Health:  Our new topic will be about Nutrition and Healthy Eating Habits.

Curriculum News:

FLA:   New Vocabulary, French Comprehension, Thanksgiving and Halloween Activities, Story writing.

ELA: New vocabulary and expressions based on the book Lost in The North. Making Predictions and reviewing important events.  Interesting adjectives to complete Picture Prompts.

Maths:  Introduction of 3-Digit Numbers, addition and subtraction of 2-Digit numbers ongoing. Problem  Solving will be ongoing.

Science:  We will be starting our new unit on Magnetism.

Social Studies:  The people, language and culture of the three Canadian communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.

Religion:  We are learning how the Apostles’ Creed describes what Christians believe. We are learning about God’s Laws and Commandments.

Health: Promoting safety for oneself and others with special emphasis on Social Distancing and wearing masks continued. The children require additional reinforcement during these challenging times.

Art: Thanksgiving Art.
