Dear Parents,
For the month of October, we have started the Magnetism Unit in Science.  The children have learned some characteristics of magnets and where they are found in the environment.
They had a chance to use magnets and discover what is magnetic and non magnetic in class.  I will let you know when I will need Parent Volunteers for our 9 magnet centers.  This will prepare them for their next Field Trip at Telus Spark.
In French, the children have started writing stories about La Sorciere.  They are beginning to add interesting adjectives and comparisons.  They have completed a booklet on French comprehensions where they learn to answer in complete sentences.  Earlier they were working on Thanksgiving activities  and projects in both English and French.
In English we are continuing with Charlotte's Web interspersed with activities such as putting words in alphabetical order, nouns verbs and adjectives and homonyms.  I hope that the children are sharing this information with you.
In Math we will be working on Patterning.  Problem solving is ongoing.
In Social Studies they are learning about the geographical characteristics of the 3 Canadian Comunities: Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.
I hope that the children are getting the chance to read in English and French everyday.

Have a great weekend!

Bonjour Parents,

We will be preparing students for the Gala d’art oratoire 2017 which is a showcase and a celebration of student achievement in French public speaking. The Gala is not a competition. The only “competition” part of the process is the school’s selection process to determine which presentation at various grade levels will represent the school. One student per grade level will participate in the Gala.
The students will select a French poem to memorize and present to the class.

The school district has prepared a rubric to facilitate the selection of these students.

One student from grade 2 will be chosen to represent the school at the Gala d’art oratoire 2017 to be held on Saturday, May 27 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Bishop McNally Theatre, 5700 Falconridge Blvd N.E. The students will give their presentations on the stage before the audience.   All of the Gala participants are presented with certificates at the end of the day.

In order to begin preparing for this activity, your child is to begin practicing and memorizing a French poem in order to present to the class on Monday, May 8.

If your child is chosen to present at the Gala d’art oratoire, a letter will be sent home.

Tomorrow is crazy hat day to support the children who have to shave their heads due to cancer.  A toonie or more will be greatly appreciated, which will go towards cancer research.

Tomorrow is also Pizza Day.
