Dear Parents,
We have learned of a new web site called dashboardskoolbo.com.  Perhaps you have heard about it already.
Skoolbo is a great new site to help with reading and maths. Children are immersed in an incredible learning world and are highly motivated by the inbuilt rewards. Parents and teachers are equipped with an array of tools to help achieve wonderful educational outcomes for their children.
In Math. we have started fractions.  The kids have been working on a very interesting booklet in class.  Next week we will be doing some differentiated activities in Math as well as Area.
In French the children have started a new story about a mystery parcel at their doorstep.
In English we are playing vocabulary games that the children are enjoying thoroughly.
In Social Studies we are continuing to learn about the 3 communities in the past and present.
Have an excellent weekend!

Dear Parents,
Tomorrow the children will be treated to a free Pizza.  Although they will not require a lunch, please do send their morning snacks.
Our next Field Trip is on the 21st at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.  Many thanks to the following Parent Volunteers:
Jansen's Mom, Junwen's Dad, Elliott's Dad, Roxy's Mom and Stella's Mom.  We will not be requiring any more.
In Science we are continuing our Unit on Small Crawling and Flying Animals.  The children have been doing amazing research with a partner and sharing information in class.  They have watched several videos and collected insects from the garden and inspected them through the magnifying glass.  Please do ask them what they have learned.
In Math, we have practiced 3-D geometric shapes extensively with manipulatives.  Problem solving has been ongoing.  Please review the Math Test with your child this evening.  Some children are still experiencing difficulty reading numbers in French and adding and subtracting with hundreds, tens and ones.

Have a great day!

Thank you very much Parents for taking the time to come to our show despite your busy schedules.  I know it means a lot to the kids.  I am certainly very proud of them and their accomplishments.  They have come a long way since September.
The Clay for Kids Project was a huge success!  The presenter Madame Jennifer was outstanding!  She explained each step clearly and patiently and although she had planned a simple project, she very kindly accepted my elaborate details.
I wish you all an excellent long weekend!

Dear Parents,
We will be preparing students for the Gala oratoire which is a showcase and a celebration of student achievement in French public speaking. The Gala is not a competition. The only “competition” part of the process is the school’s selection process to determine which presentation at various grade levels will represent the school. One student per grade level will participate in the Gala.

Students will select a poem (poème/comptine) to memorize and present to the class (maximum 1.5 minutes in length).

After presenting to the class, some students will be selected to present in front of the school. The school district has prepared a rubric to facilitate the selection of these students.

One student from grade 3 will be chosen to represent the school at the Gala d’art oratoire 2016 to be held on Saturday, May 28 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. (division 1) at Bishop Grandin Theatre. The students will give their presentations on the stage before the audience.   All of the Gala participants are presented with certificates at the end of the day.
We have already started the practices and the kids are doing an amazing job!!

Thank you  so much for helping the kids build their boats.  We had fun floating them and seeing if they could support a load.  Next week the challenge will be to propel the boat successfully in the water.  The children also memorized information about their favourite sea animal and presented to the class.  Please do ask them to share the info. with you. They were outstanding!!
In Social Studies, the kids are working on the Natural Resources in the three communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.
In Math, we are working on addition and subtraction with regrouping as well as ordering numbers from least to greatest and vice versa.
In French  we are continuing to work on comprehensions, grammar and story writing.
In English story writing is ongoing.  We have also been playing some vocabulary games that the kids are enjoying immensely.
Last but not the least, we have started our play practices.  It is a celebration of the Grade 2 year.  We shall keep you posted when we are ready for our show.
Have a fabulous weekend and enjoy the delightful weather!!
