What we have been doing so far:

French:    Reading comprehension and story writing with an interesting beginning, middle and end. Adjectives and comparisons.

English:   We have been working on Spring Poems

Religion:   This week the kids did the Shamrock.

Health:   We have been working on the Zones of Regulation

Science:  The Liquid Unit is nearing completion.  The next Unit will be Boats and Buoyancy.

Social Studies:  We are winding up with the culture and language of the three communities of Canada.

Everyone will get the chance to do Green Screen Technology once they have prepared their presentations.

 English:     In English we are working on the Bat Booklet with Myths about bats, whether they are a Pal or Pest to farmers, their body parts etc. 

We are writing and illustrating stories with an interesting beginning, middle and end as well as descriptive adjectives.

The novel study Grizzly Cove is ongoing.

What we are doing this month

French:    We have started writing stories with a beginning, middle and end and with interesting details. Reading comprehension is ongoing. We have started a Valentine's booklet integrating French with Math. Literacy Centers are ongoing.

Math: Addition and Subtraction of two and three digit numbers with regrouping. Math games with Dominos and dice.

Social Studies:  We have started our Unit about the culture, language and festivals of the three communities of Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon. The kids were excited about preparing presentations of their favorite community, with the goal of linking it with technology 'Green Screen."

Health: We will be talking about the Zones of Regulation related to positive and negative emotions and the strategies to regulate them.

Art:  We will be focusing on Valentines Art this month and perhaps moving on to Spring Art. 

Science:   We are winding up the Hot and Cold Unit and we will soon be starting the Unit on Liquids.

Religion:   The children are learning about Blessed Trinity and the Holy Spirit.

For the month of January we are focusing on:

French:  Reading comprehension.  Literacy Centres.  Writing short stories with an interesting beginning, middle and end. 

Math:   Adding and subtracting three digit numbers without regrouping. Adding and subtracting two digit numbers with regrouping. Graphing and patterning.

English:  We have started our unit on Bats. The children have learned some interesting facts about bats. We will also begin writing short stories with interesting vocabulary and adjectives.

Science:  We are continuing our Hot and Cold Unit. How to read thermometers. We will be learning some security rules, how to keep a house warm in winter and cool in summer, how a thermos works etc.

Religion: The children are learning about the seven sacraments.

Health:  How to identify and develop strategies to deal with positive and negative emotions. 

Social Studies:  The economic features of the three communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.

Art: We will focus on Art of the three communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.

What will we be learning about this month?

French Language Arts:   We will continue to write stories about La Sorciere.  We will learn new vocabulary and continue reading comprehension. For more practice with this at home, your child can also visit:   http://www.duplaisiralire.com/jeux/index.htm

English Language Arts:    We have started our Novel Study of Lost in the North.  We are making predictions and reflections. Vocabulary and collective nouns are ongoing. We will work on grammar from time to time and writing simple stories using interesting adjectives.

Math:    We are working on addition and subtraction with two digit numbers. We will continue working on Number Sense and we will begin patterns.

Social Studies:  The Grade 2's will continue to explore and investigate the physical geography of Saskatoon, Meteghan and Iqaluit.

Science:  We are winding up our Unit on Magnetism. I will prepare the kids for a test. The next Science Unit will be Hot and Cold Temperatures.

Health:  We will continue exploring Nutrition and healthy eating habits.

Art:  This month we will do a project for Remembrance Day and a project on Inukshuks, relating it to Social Studies.

Music:  The Grade 2's will learn about melody and sing French songs.

Religion:  The kids will learn about the Apostle's Creed and they will be introduced to the Beatitudes.

What we are learning this month:

French:       We finished an Autumn booklet. We are presently working on reading comprehension and Thanksgiving activities. We will write stories for Halloween along with vocabulary and a variety of activities.

Maths:   We will now begin addition and subtraction of two digit numbers. Problem solving will be ongoing.

Health: We will focus on nutrition, food groups and healthy eating habits.

Science:  We will wind up our spider unit with a couple of tests. The next Unit Will be Magnetism.

English: We watched the video The Rainbow Fish. We had a rich discussion about the moral of the story. A project will follow. We are also working on a booklet with interesting adjectives and completing sentences.

Art:  We are working on our pumpkin seed project. 

Religion:   The four parts of Mass.

What will we learn about in September?

 

French:     We will work on our French listening, speaking and writing skills. We will also review our French sounds ( ai, on, in, ou  etc.)

 

Math:   We will be working on number sense and reviewing strategies for addition and subtraction.

             Skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's will be ongoing and an important focus.

 

Social Studies:  We will learn about Canada and the physical geography of the three Canadian communities:  Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon and make a comparison with our own community.

 

Science:  We will begin our new Small Crawling and Flying Animals Unit. The children will learn about different types of spiders and their characteristics. They will watch videos and use library books to do some research.

 

Religion:  The children will learn about how we belong to God's family.

 

Art:  We will begin preparing a Fall Art Project.
