Dear Parents,
The Grade 2's are off to a great start!! They are gradually warming up to the routine of speaking French. I hope that your child was able to share what they learned in Social Studies.  Many thanks for sending the booklet back promptly. They will soon be bringing their Math booklet home where the children have been practicing doubles, doubles plus one and doubles minus one, in order to sharpen their mental math skills.  Skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's is ongoing.
In Science the children are learning about magnets.  Please do ask them what they have learned so far.
I look forward to meeting all of you at the BBQ and the Parent/Teacher Interviews.
Best regards
Mme Amrita

Dear Parents,
The children have been bringing home their binders with the work done this year.  Please could you go over the work and help your child finish any unfinished work. Thank you.  As well, I finished marking the latest Math problem solving booklet with two and three digit numbers, with addition and subtraction.  We have reviewed many examples in class but it would be advisable to continue to review it over the summer.  When children do not align the three digit numbers correctly and forget to show and add the remainder, they make mistakes.  They have also learned to tell the time, so if you can ask them to tell the time from time to time during the holidays, they will become more familiar and confident.  I have sent all the extra school supplies home with your child that he or she can use in Grade three.
Once again, I wish you all an excellent summer!
Best regards
Mme Amrita

Dear Grand Parents, Parents and siblings,
Many, many thanks for coming in such large numbers for our show. I am sure you agree, without a shadow of doubt that the Grade 2's were amazing SUPER STARS!!!  I am SO proud of them!  Perhaps the greatest reward for a teacher is to see the tremendous progress of the child by the end of the year.  All the kids memorized the play and they are inadvertently speaking great French.
Let me take this opportunity to wish you all an excellent summer with your families!
Warm regards
Mme Amrita

P. S.  Please remember to send a big bag with your child to take home the end of the year supplies.  Thank you.

Dear Parents,
Some important reminders for the month of May:
Please check the Calendar that was sent to you last week with the important events for May.  Over and above those events, we have two important and exciting Field Trips coming up.  The first is on the 31st of May at Glenbow Museum for the whole day where there will be two Social Studies workshops namely Our Community Our People and Discovery Adventure.  For this I will require 3 parent volunteers.  The second Field Trip is on the 7th of June at Heritage Park where there will be a Scavenger Hunt highlighting Our Community in the Past and the Present.  I will need Four Parent Volunteers for this.  We have 64 students and only one bus which allows a seating capacity of 72 students.  It will be greatly appreciated if a couple of Parent Volunteers could drive directly to Heritage Park and meet us at the entrance.  Thank you so much.
For the month of May and June we will be studying:
Science:  We are winding up the Boats and Buoyancy Unit with some additional experiments and general review.  We will be starting our new Unit of Small Flying and Crawling Animals.
Math:  The children have a good understanding of the Measurement Unit.  I am quite impressed with their estimations.  We are still continuing with some exciting activities in this Unit.  We will be doing Statistics and Probability and Telling Time.  Problem Solving will be ongoing.
French:   Story writing with a beginning, middle and end with interesting adjectives and expressions using the dictionary and vocabulary learned in class.  Comprehension passages and grammar.
English:  Spring Poems and English Story Writing.  Stuart Little and Comprehension Questions.
Religion:  Rosary   The emphasis this month is Mary and we are preparing for our Marian Liturgy.  The children every Tuesday morning have a religious presentation and they have the opportunity to say the Hail Mary and Our Father several times.
Art:   We have been integrating Art with Math and using Measurement for symmetry.  We will also be doing beautiful art projects with insects.
Health:  We will be looking at characteristics of friendship and effective strategies to resolve conflicts.
We look forward to seeing you at our first Marian Liturgy at 10 am on Friday the 10th of May.
