The children have Phys. Ed. and Wellness classes on Day 4 and Day 6, every six day cycle.
They have Library on Day 4 of the six day cycle.
D.P.A. or Daily Physical Activity takes place on Day 2.

What we are doing in the month of May:
French: Reading comprehension
Story writing with an interesting beginning, middle and end, using adjectives and similes.
Science: Boats and Buoyancy The kids have learned which objects float and sink. We have done a number of exciting experiments. I will keep you informed about building a boat with recycling materials.
Math: 2-D and 3-D shapes The children have learned how to identify the parts of 3-D shapes and how they are different from 2-D shapes. How to tell the time.
Problem solving is ongoing
English: Story writing with an interesting beginning, middle and end.
Art: Marian Liturgy Art
Health: Zones of regulation, conflict resolution.

What we have been doing this month:
FLA: Story writing with a beginning, middle and end. Adding interesting adjectives and comparisons. Reading comprehension is ongoing.
Math: We have been working on adding and subtracting of three digit numbers with regrouping, how to round numbers to the nearest ten. Problem solving is ongoing. We will soon be starting 2-D and 3-D shapes.
ELA: Spring Poems. Story writing with a beginning, middle and end. Adding interesting adjectives and comparisons.
Science: We are finishing our Unit on Liquids. Experiments and critical thinking skills are ongoing.
Social Studies: We will soon be making a comparison between our community in the past and in the present.
Art: Spring art projects.

What we are doing in February:
French: Reading Comprehension. Literacy Centres: Students read a book in a group, present what happens in the beginning, middle and end, present main characters and reflect on new French words and expressions. This is an invaluable tool in building confidence in the child. The children will soon be introduced to story writing with an interesting beginning and end.
English: We have completed our novel study of Lost In The North and we will begin another novel by the same author. Vocabulary words using Phonics will be ongoing. The children will soon be writing an interesting story using Picture Prompts.
Math: We are working on the addition and subtraction of three digit numbers. The children first practice reading the number in French, place them in ascending order and then represent the number in three different ways: drawing the number using hundreds, tens and units, using French words, centaine, dizaine, unite and breaking up the three digit number.
Problem solving will be ongoing. Please do encourage your child to practice Zorbit's Math at home.
Science: We are winding up our Hot and Cold Unit. We will continue to practice reading temperatures in a thermometer. We are continuing to learn how animals, birds and insects keep warm in winter.
Art: February is Black History Month. We will explore both Indigenous and Black History Art this month
Social Studies: The Economic Resources, goods and services in the three communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan and a comparison with Alberta.
Health: We have started our Unit on Nutrition. We are exploring the four food groups in French in the Canada Food Guide. We will make posters with slogans about healthy eating.

French: Reading comprehension will be ongoing. The students will be introduced to story writing with a beginning, middle and end. They will be introduced to interesting adjectives and similes.
E.L.A. Vocabulary and reflection questions of the novel study Lost In The North will be ongoing. The children will be given a picture prompt to write a short story with a beginning, middle and end. We will complete the booklet with adjectives and story endings this week. We have started our Phonics Unit yesterday and it helps kids who cannot read, to sound out letters and then build a word family.
Math: We are continuing with patterning and yesterday the kids got the chance to identify patterns that have illustrations, numbers and vocabulary words. It was a great test of their critical thinking skills. Adding and subtracting without regrouping is ongoing. Reading three digit numbers and demonstrating with manipulatives is ongoing.
Science: The Hot and Cold Unit will continue till the end of the month. We might have an exciting culminating activity. I shall keep you posted. The children will learn how the thermos keeps liquids hot or cold. They will also learn about the insulation used in buildings and how animals and birds stay warm in winter.
Art: We are integrating the Art project with our Science Unit.
Social Studies: We will be looking at the natural resources, jobs as well as goods and services of Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon.

What we are doing this month:
Science: We will continue with our Magnet Unit for another two weeks after which I will give the children a test. I always discuss the test in detail with the kids so that they are comfortable and ready to write it.
French: We are doing reading comprehension and the children are learning how to answer in complete sentences. We will be completing our Halloween activities this week.
English: We have started our novel study of Charlotte's Web. The children are learning new vocabulary, making predictions and focussing on reflection questions. The kids are also working on a booklet adding interesting adjectives phrases.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about the language and culture of the three communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.
Math: We will start adding and subtracting with two digit numbers. Problem solving is ongoing. We are also working on the new curriculum called Mathologie. The kids are enjoying estimating and counting in different ways by skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. Once the Zorbit Math website is up and running on Google Classroom, I will keep you informed.
Art: The kids have learned Zentangle Patterns and they are busy drawing and colouring a Remembrance Day Poem, "In Flanders Fields." Some children have started the good copy of the Pumpkin Seed Autumn Project. Once they have finished painting it, I will send you pictures.
Health: The kids will be working on Wellness Day activities that Mme Wozny has shared in the St. Luke Weekly.
Please continue to read with your child everyday and practice basic facts in Math with addition and subtraction.

Math: Skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's continues. Addition and subtraction till 100. Mental Math strategies for doubles, doubles plus one and minus one. Math vocabulary. Problem solving.
Science: We will soon be winding up the Spider Unit and starting the Unit on Magnets.
Social Studies: The people, language and culture of the three communities in Canada, Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan.
Health: We are learning to appreciate the healthy benefits of nutritional snacks and physical activity.
English: We have started learning about word families and descriptive adjectives.
Music: The kids have been practicing a variety of songs. We will soon focus on beat with Djembe drums.
