Grade 2 Update:
Dear Parents,
The following is a quick update on what will be taking place
this month in our classroom and at St. Luke’s:
Important Dates to Remember:
Monday November 11th -
Remembrance Day /No School
November 29th Field Trip to Glenbow Museum ( The
information will go home on Tuesday)
What will we be
learning about this month?
French Language Arts: We are working on comprehensions and
story writing with a beginning, middle and end. We have started our Literacy
Centres, a valuable tool in building vocabulary and confidence in speaking
French.
English Language Arts: The novel “Charlotte’s Web” by E. B.
White is off to a great start. The kids are always excited to learn what
happens next. We will study vocabulary, make predictions about the story as we
read along and do multiple choice activities. Please read the note about the
Diorama that we will create for Charlotte’s Web.
Math: We will continue representing and describing numbers to
100. We have started adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers without regrouping. Basic facts and problem solving are ongoing.
Social Studies: We are studying the culture and language
of the 3 communities of Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan. You could assist your
child with this at home by looking at pictures of each of these communities
online.
Science: We have started the Hot and Cold Unit
in Science. Please ask your child what they have learned so far. They did their
first experiment with thermometers today.
Health: We will continue exploring safety and
responsibility and learn about nutrition.
Art: This month, the students will be working on Inukshuks and
their significance in Iqaluit.
Religion: The students will continue learning
about how we belong to God’s Family and will explore the important aspects of
our Church Community.
